Description
The dynamics of elective pathways can significantly affect key performance measures such as quality of service and patient safety; capacity, demand and scheduling; length of stay and pathway costs.
Emergency care pathways are complex. Successful patient flow in the emergency pathways depends upon the interactions of multiple departments. Typical departments are A&E; wards; theatres; radiology; pharmacy and discharge teams. This complexity of interaction will impact on patient issues such as length of stay, mortality rates, quality and safety.
Creating sustainable improvements is founded on an in-depth knowledge of several pathway elements such as demand dynamics; planning for admission, pathway capacity and discharge processes. This Master Class will then review the primary techniques for ensuring a balanced approach to pathway management.
Systemic application of Lean across an entire pathway will deliver a significant impact on these measures and support national agendas such as QIPP and CQUIN.
Successful application of the elements covered in this Master Class will return a reduction in outpatient waiting times, increase in theatre safety and productivity and a better balance of available capacity and demand requirements.
